Owls Set For Maclean Talks

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is set to sit down and discuss a new contract with in-form Owls striker Steve Maclean, according to reports from BBC Radio Sheffield.

The former Rangers player, who also played under Laws at Scunthorpe United in a one-year loan spell, is out of contract at Hillsborough in the summer, and Laws is keen to tie up a new deal to keep him at Wednesday on a long-term basis.

The Scot is in a rich vein of form for the Owls after netting the equaliser in Wednesday's impressive 1-1 draw with Stuart Pearce's Manchester City in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday.

And after overcoming a serious injury last season, Macca has returned to the Owls side with a bang this season with an impressive return of seven goals from eight starts, including three in his last three starts for the club.

His fine form will give the Owls gaffer a welcome selection headache going in to the vital clash with Derby County at the weekend - with Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay also in contention in the Wednesday attack.

Maclean moved to S6 in the summer of 2004 when Chris Turner brought him from Rangers - and the Scot has netted 26 league goals for the club in 47 starts.
