Laws Set To Spend

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he is set to enter the transfer market and bolster his Owls squad - should the right players become available.

The Owls have yet to be linked with moves for any players since the opening of the transfer window this month, but the gaffer has insisted he has a list as long as his arm, and is confident in his ability to strengthen the Owls squad as they look towards the Championship play-off spots.

He told the official SWFC site: 'You don't bring in players for the sake of it, you bring in somebody better than what you've got. The players have earned the right to be in the team and it shows in the results. I'll bring in players if I can, when I can.'

He continued: 'We've searched high and low and covered a lot of mileage. I'm covering loads of different positions, not only for now but also for next season.

'I know I haven't got a war chest like Derby, who have just spent £4 million, but good luck to them. We'll have to do it with good, hard work and scouting. Let's hope all the hard work will come to fruition and we'll bring somebody in, in the near future.'

And Laws' 'war chest' could well be boosted if the sale of highly-rated defender Madjid Bougherra goes ahead - with both Charlton Athletic and Reading linked with £3m moves for the Algerian International.

And he also insisted that he would be looking at extending the deals of a number of players currently at the club whose deals expire at the end of this season - with Steve Maclean and Lee Bullen the top of Laws' list.

We need to spend and yesterday showed that. Striker is needed and a flair midfield player like derby had in giles barnes.
