Owls Sign Clarke

Wednesday have completed the transfer of young Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Leon Clarke on a deal that will see the striker remain at S6 until 2009.

The 6ft 2in target man has signed for the club for an undisclosed fee and has enjoyed success against the Owls already this season by netting both goals in the 2-2 draw at Molineux earlier this season.

Owls boss Brian Laws told the official site: 'I believe Leon will be a great acquisition to the team. He gives me a different option up front to those we currently have, which will enable me to change things when required.'

The 21-year-old has already made 83 appearances for his hometown club and scored 15 goals after progressing through the youth ranks at the Midlands club.

The striker will be unavailable for the Owls FA Cup Third Round trip to Manchester City tomorrow night but will be eligable for the crunch clash with Sunderland at Hillsborough on Saturday.

One more signing than I thought we'd get anyway, and I'm ready to give him a few games to prove himself. Laws seems to have a knack of bringing out the best in young talent, here's hoping he does the same here!
