Owls Go Smoke Free

Wednesday have introduced a smoke free policy at Hillsborough from Tuesday, June 1 in-line with the league-wide policing which kicks in next season.

Smoking will not be permitted anywhere on the Hillsborough ground premises - including the stands, concourses, function rooms and outdoor areas at any time. The ban comes on the back of the news that on smoking in all public places in England comes into force on 1st July, 2007.

Wednesday chief executive Kaven Walker said: 'We have been considering a smoking ban for some time, in line with our desire to ensure Hillsborough remains a family-friendly place. With the new Government legislation coming into force this summer, and this policy decision by the Football League, this seems a sensible time to implement the ban for the health of all our supporters and customers.'

The decision for the Football League to ban all smoking at football grounds across the country follows the League's 2006 Supporters Survey in 2006, in which 80% of fans asked for some form of smoke free policy at football matches.

The ground regulations for all Football League stadiums will incorporate the new policy and fans smoking at games will be ejected from the stadium.
