D'Urso Takes Charge

Former Premiership referee Andy D'Urso will be taking charge of the Owls' vital clash with Roy Keane's Sunderland this afternoon at Hillsborough (kick-off 3pm).

The Essex-born referee is probably most well-known for giving a penalty for Middlesbrough at Old Trafford against Manchester United (there aren't many against Man United are there?!) and being promptly chased around the pitch by the Manchester United players!

But now he plys his trade in the lower leagues, having refereed in 26 Football League matches this season - including eight matches from the Championship - it will be the first time he's officiated at a Wednesday match this season.

During those 26 matches D'Urso has handed out 63 yellow cards and three red cards - including two in Sheffield United's recent defeat at home to Swansea City. Let's hope he brings a bit more luck to Sheffield than he did that day!

Mr D'Urso will be joined by C Evans and W E Grunnill as linesmen while P I Thompson will be fourth official.

Brilliant, another failed referee at the top level coming down to the Championship to take it out on us!

He wasn't that bad today but his linesman near the south stand wasn't the best!
