Macca Hopeful Over Contract

In-form Wednesday striker Steve Maclean is hoping he can do enough to secure a new contract at the club, with his current deal coming to an end this summer.

The former Rangers and Scunthorpe United hitman has hit a fine run of form after coming back in to Brian Laws' first team plans over the last month - netting three goals over the festive period to take his tally for the season to seven in ten games.

And both the club and Maclean have expressed their desire to extend his current deal to keep him at Hillsborough past the summer - but the Scot has yet to receive any contact regarding a new deal.

Maclean told the Wednesday matchday programme: 'There's been no contact from the club as yet but I'm really keen to stay. I just need to wait and see what happens between now and the end of the season. At the moment, I'm fully focussed on my football and hopefully my game will do the talking for me.'

And he insists he is delighted to be back part of the first team plans and is confident he will score goals in the famous blue and white shirt should he get an extended run in the team.

He added: I'm just so happy to be playing again and scoring goals. When you're on the sidelines for a long period of time, it does teach you to appreciate things more. I'm delighted to be back and hopefully I can keep performing, keep scoring goals and keep my place in the team.

'Every time I've played in a decent run of games I've scored goals. There's a lot more to my game these days than just putting the ball in the back of the net but like any striker, I'm happiest when I'm scoring goals. Taking the penalties helps, of course, and I have a good record from the spot'

The 24-year-old worked with Owls boss Brian Laws while on-loan at Scunthorpe - netting 23 for the Iron from just 37 games. And Maclean continued his fine scoring form to help the Owls to promotion under Paul Sturrock as he netted 20 goals, including one at the play-off final in Cardiff.

Wade small is too hot and cold, he keeps coming inside too much, he needs to get wide, and get some crosses in.
