Laws Awaits Injury News

Wednesday boss Brian Laws will anxiously await the injury news on Graham Coughlan and Burton O'Brien after the pair limped off in Wednesday's defeat to Sunderland at the weekend.

O'Brien had only been on the pitch for half an hour - after plugging the gap at left-back in light of the suspension to Tommy Spurr and the failed late fitness test of John Hills - as he limped off with a twisted knee.

Graham Coughlan was soon to follow O'Brien off the pitch after a clash in the Owls box - and was taken to hospital with concussion and at least one tooth missing following a blow to his head.

And Laws will know the full extent of both players injuries this week, and will be hoping neither are long-term casualties as he looks to get a full squad back in place for the tough trip to Southampton a week on Wednesday.

Full-backs Tommy Spurr and Frank Simek will be available for selection following their one-match suspension, and Laws is also hopeful of returns for fellow defenders Richard Wood and Madjid Bougherra - who both failed fitness tests before Saturday's clash.

Laws told the official SWFC site: 'Wood turned his ankle in the reserve match and it was black and blue. But he only just failed the fitness test and would have been okay with another 24 hours. Madjid has a calf strain but I expect him to be here and ready to play at Southampton. Hillsy wasn't far away either.'
