Players Staying Put

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed that none of his squad will be leaving the club on loan following an enquiry about the availability of Graham Coughlan.

The Owls have already allowed striker Drew Talbot to join Scunthorpe United and defender Peter Gilbert join Doncaster Rovers on loan deals, but Laws has insisted the club can't afford to let anyone else leave.

SPL side Dundee United had an approach for centre-back Graham Coughlan rejected earlier in the week due to the injury problems with the Wednesday defence.

'Graham is not going out on loan full-stop,' said Laws. 'I have had phone calls from numerous managers regarding numerous players and Coughlan is one of those players.

'The request has been turned down for the simple reason that we cannot afford to let anybody out, especially with our defensive situation.'

Laws is already down to the bare bones at the back following injuries to Madjid Bougherra, Richard Wood, John Hills and Graham Coughlan and wants to keep his squad together in the race for the play-off spots.
