Young Owls secure League Championship

Young Owls secure League Championship

Playoff aside, there is some cracking news coming out of S6 as Congratulations are in order for the Owls developmental squad who under the guidance of Neil Thompson secured the Professional Development League Two Championship at S6 on Friday evening (May 12th).

Thompson is full of praise for his young sode as they secured the title with a 3 - 1 victory over Hull City, shame we didnt do that at Wembley eh?!?!

Not that matters as the Owls youngsters featuring a selection of players who have all grown after enjoyed first team action this season including Cameron Dawson and George Hirst. That experience, as well as big games and trophies will help the whole Owls academy and Thompson told swfc.co.uk:

"I`m immensely proud of the boys. It has been tough for the players. We have not been easy on them.

"But at the end of the day, they`ve come out with two trophies and it fantastic for the players, the staff and the academy."

Two goals from George Hirst who has notched 36 club goals this season coupled with first team and England duties plus a smart finish from Liam Williams did the damage and Thompson hailed a measured all-round display by the young Owls as he added:

"We put in a great performance. We were thoroughly professional and limited Hull to next to nothing.

"They are a good team and have had a great season but we started really brightly and our game plan was good.

'I was disappointed with the penalty against us. We just slacked off a little bit and gave them some encouragement.

'But I thought we controlled the second half and the third goal gave us a cushion."
