Owls Summer Fan Interviews - Ben Newton (@RetroFootball99)

Owls Summer Fan Interviews - Ben Newton (@RetroFootball99)

First up in our fan interviews, we speak to lifelong Wednesdayite Ben Newton of @retrofootball99 about his views on the Owls.

1 - Best moment of the 2016/17 Season?
The last-minute Kieran Lee winner to come back from 2-0 down against Bristol City at home. Showed we could win, even when weren't playing our best, and we could also overturn a deficit.

2 - Worst moment of the 2016/17 Season?
The moment Forestieri's penalty was saved by Danny Ward at Hillsborough in the Play-Off Semi-Final. Gutted.

3 - Which players realistically would you like to see the Owls sign in the summer?
Personally, feel we lack strength in depth defensively as well as both full backs not really strong enough performance-wise, throughout the course of a whole season. I`d look for someone to fill the void, but I`m unsure on a name.
Daniel Ayala - Middlesbrough, comfortable on the ball and would be a great first team addition next to Tom Lees, we`re in need of a centre-half after Sasso`s gone.
Danny Williams - Reading, midfield powerhouse, great box to box player, he`s what we need in midfield due to us sometimes looking overpowered and out of ideas in games. However, he looks set for Huddersfield.
Callum McManaman - West Brom, disappointed with how he was used last year due to not being a Carvalhal favourite. But, when he played, he looked exciting and ran at players - something which I think we lacked last year. If utilised well, he could be a game changer.

4 - Which player or players if any would happily drive to a new club?
Hunt/Palmer - I`d keep either one as a back-up, and sell the other. For me, they don`t perform well enough in in big games when we need them to perform. The funds raised could be used to re-invest into a better right-back to help take our defence to the next level.
Matias - Unfortunately, he`s never been fit, and has spent more time in the treatment room than the training pitch. And to be honest, when he has been, he`s never taken the chances he has had.
Joao - Our strikeforce is that strong now, easily the best in the league, that Joao can afford to be offloaded. He`s practically 6th choice now behind Rhodes, Hooper, Fletcher, Winnall, and Nuhiu.
McGugan - Let him get a game somewhere. It`s better than rotting in our reserves.

5 - What does Carlos Carvalhal need to end the Owls top flight exile?
I`d like to see the return of the quick attacking football. The kind of stuff which was like his first year - it was really great to watch and got Hillsborough going. I`d also bring the wingers into the game, which will benefit our strikers now that we have Rhodes, Fletcher, and Winnall, who are all excellent in the air.

6 - Who was your first footballing hero?
This one is easy for me. I have a signed shirt from this man, an absolute Chelsea legend - Frank Lampard. He scored 20 a season from midfield, and is the all-time leading goal-scorer. That for me, says it all.

7 - Do you have a second team? If so what is your reason?
Not really, if I`m honest. I`ve always had soft spots for teams but probably not enough to call them my second team.

8 - What do you expect from Wednesday Vs United, next season?
Personally, I can see them being both scrappy games, but games that on paper, we should win. But, football isn`t played on paper, and it'll be two tough-fought games if we're going to get points from them.

9 - Finally, one person you could take on a dinner date?
That`s a difficult one. I`ll pick one away from football. For me, it must be Liam Gallagher. He`s the coolest guy around, and I imagine he`d 1000s of stories to tell. Absolute hero.
