EXCLUSIVE: Glenn Loovens Interview w/Football Oranje
Yesterday, in a unique collaboration with Dutch footballing website and podcast, Football Oranje, we caught up with twice-capped Dutch international, and current Sheffield Wednesday captain, Mr. Glenn Loovens.
We asked him about his experiences as Wednesday captain, including picking the team up after back-to-back play-off defeats. "We were two times so close to achieving something great, and to miss out twice, it`s hard. But, this is football, this is life, and you need to crack on. Fortunately, we have a good group, and in that respect, it was easy to get everyone pointing to the same direction again.".
Glenn also talked through his playing form at Hillsborough, compared to his Feyenoord, Cardiff, and Celtic days. He was then questioned on his defensive partnership with Tom Lees, and what makes them work together so well, as we have seen with record number of clean sheets in back-to-back seasons in 2014/15, and 2015/16.
He also mentioned that the "Championship was probably the toughest" league he had played in, as there more games, and the gap in quality between teams is not as great as other leagues. He was then pressed by Football Oranje reporter Michael Statham on what his plans were for the future, to which he replied: "I have another year`s contract with Sheffield Wednesday, and like you said, I am the captain here, I`m very much respected, and I enjoy my time very much, so does my family. So in the near future, I don`t really see the urge to change".
Towards the end of the interview, he was asked if he thought if Wednesday would be a Premier League team in one year`s time, to which he gave a quick and simple response: "Yes." He eventually continued to add: "That`s what we have to realise. If you go into the season with the mindset that you`re not going to make it, you might as well not join."
Upon his recent attendance at Kevin De Bruyne`s wedding, he was asked a very tongue-in-cheek question about the link, and whether we can expect to see the Belgian at S6 any time soon. "I`ll ask him! I don`t know if we can afford his wages, but we`ll try", Glenn remarked. However, the answer lies with the respective other halves, who know one another.

We'd like to thank Football Oranje for the opportunity to collaborate with them, as well as thank Glenn for his time after training yesterday.
