'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Laws' Musings: Pre-North End

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has highlighted tomorrow's clash with Championship high-flyers Preston as a big match - and one which could provide another turning point in their season.

Laws suffered his most difficult spell in charge at Wednesday since arriving at the club last year during January - with the Owls losing all their Championship matches and being knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle against Manchester City.

The Owls now trail the play-offs by six points but Laws is confident a victory against Paul Simpson's men tomorrow will give them the lift they need to push on for the remainder of the season.

'It's a big game for us against Preston,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'We don't take lightly the fact that it's been a hard month for us in terms of results, but circumstances have contributed to that. We need to get a win under our belts. Confidence is still high but the longer this run goes on the more we need to engineer a win.'

Laws insisted the Owls didn't disgrace themselves as they lost 2-1 to a Southampton side gunning for promotion this season thanks to an injection of cash which has seen them bolster their squad, but he is still sure his side can improve.

He added: 'We didn't disgrace ourselves at Southampton, who have quality, and I would say their budget is three times the size of ours. But we can do better.'
