Butter Me Up!

Butter Me Up!

It's often difficult to not get caught up in the hype of deadline day, whether it's frantically refreshing Twitter, watching Jim White and his yellow tie, or even the return of 'Arry leaning from the car window.

Sheffield Wednesday certainly got stuck into the action, but left it rather late, announcing their only signing with five minutes to play in the transfer window.

The signing was Jacob Butterfield of Derby County. The central midfielder joins the Owls on loan fo the 2017/18 campaign, to add to the strength in depth that Carlos Carvalhal has available to him. Similarly to Kieran Lee, he was once had a place in the Manchester United youth academy.

Butterfield began his professional career locally, over in Barnsley, before switched to Norwich in 2012, where he did get a brief taste of Premier League football with the Canaries.

He then made his way back up to Yorkshire playing for Boro, before moving to Derbyshire with Huddersfield and Derby County respectively. He was the player of the season at the John Smith's Stadium before Derby paid £5m to the Terriers for the services of the midfield man back in 2015.

He is a player of great experience at this level, accruing over 200 appearances in the division. And at 27, that experience balances itself with being in the peak age of his career. He is known for having a rocket of a left-foot, and has scored some absolute thunderchuffers (blame Lord H for that word...) in his career.

What do you make of the signing of Jacob Butterfield? And will he break into Carlos's repertoire of midfielders? Let us know!

Anyone up for guesses where CC is going to play him? RB position is a bit vulnerable at the moment.
