Carvalhal - Result Matched The Performance
Manager Carlos Carvalhal has praised the quality of Sheffield Wednesday's performance against Leeds United this weekend.
Hosting the side at Hillsborough for the game, a brace from Gary Hooper and a third from Kieran Lee game Wednesday the three nil victory over our West Yorkshire rivals and after recent disappointments, Carvalhal couldn't have been happier with the performance and the result on the day.
Speaking to the Official Site following the game as he met with the press, the gaffer explained.
'There was never any doubts for me because of the quality of my players. I showed the players a £20 note before the game and said 'I would pay four times this money` to see you play your football. I have 100% faith in this team, in this squad and this performance showed why. It was very, very good. We scored three goals and had one more incorrectly disallowed, we controlled the game.'
Carvalhal went on to say.
'We played our football and the atmosphere was fantastic. I believe getting the first goal was very important and made a massive difference. It gave us confidence and gave Leeds a problem so from there we put our profile on the game and could have won with more goals than we did.'
Hooper was also in front of the press following the game, and he's quoted by the Star as saying that he felt the margin of victory could've been greater.
'We`ve had the same feeling in the dressing room; we knew we had to win after two losses but we kept it the same, worked hard and we got the win and a great one at that. We scored three goals but for sure it could have been more.'
Hooper went on to say.
'I should be scoring a hat-trick, the keeper has got a hand to the last one so, no hat-trick today but hopefully one will come eventually. I don`t think I`ve been on a run like this before. It should be eight goals in seven with the goal at Birmingham. I was onside and if that had counted, I`m sure we would have won the game. My confidence is very high; we are playing very good football and when you play like that, you will create chances and that showed against Leeds. The main thing is the three points today heading into the international break. "We have a nice break now and we look forward to Bolton.'
