Owls Sign Burton and Tudgay

Paul Sturrock has finally ended the search for a striker by bringing Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay to Hillsborough.

Burton has been signed on an 18-month contract for a fee of £110,000, while Tudgay has signed on a one-month loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer - both are available for Monday's encounter with Crewe Alexandre.

Burton, 29, has scored 14 times for a struggling Rotherham side this season and has had plenty of experience at this level which is exactly what Sturrock has been looking for.

Owls manager Paul Sturrock told the official SWFC site: 'We've watched Deon several times this season and we know him from playing against him last season. He is a proven goalscorer, a penalty box player, who can also lead the line very well. He is a target man who holds the ball up.'

Tudgay is only young at 22 years of age but has had much experience at Championship level with Derby. He played in Derby's 2-1 defeat at Hillsborough in November.

Sturrock added: 'Marcus can play several positions up front and is a different type of player. We watched him last season, when he scored ten goals, and he played very well against us at Hillsborough.'
