Owls Set For Defender Swoop

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he hopes to have an unnamed central defender in place on a loan deal in time for the Owls trip to Burnley on Saturday.

Wednesday have been hit with a defensive crisis in recent weeks with the sale of Madjid Bougherra to Charlton and the injuries to Graham Coughlan, Richard Wood and John Hills.

Laws told the official SWFC site: 'At the moment we're making mistakes and those mistakes are getting very costly so the important thing now is to try and eradicate. We need some experience in there and that's something we're trying to achieve.

'We've been working all week to try and get an experienced centre half in. We hope we can achieve that, we've had the go-ahead from the club concerned and just need to speak to the player. If we can convince him to come, we might have an experienced player on our hands for Burnley.'

Laws was forced to include academy defender Mark Beevers in the Owls' previous two matches which saw them lose 3-1 at home Preston and 2-1 away at Southampton.

But Wednesday are desperate to get back to the form which saw them within four points of the play-off spots over the festive period - starting with victory over fellow strugglers Burnley, who are yet to win in ten games.
