Carvalhal Looking For Momentum
Sheffield Wednesday gaffer Carlos Carvalhal has called on the team to continue their momentum as we go into the game against Bristol City this weekend.
Hosting Lee Johnson's side at Hillsborough for the Championship tie with the November international break now behind us, Carvalhal reflected on our form and results ahead of the break that saw us take seven points from nine in games against Aston Villa, Millwall and Barnsley and he felt we were finally picking up the results our performances had deserved.
Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media, he insisted confidence remained high but what mattered was we continued those performance levels moving forward.
'The results are coming and the confidence is more high in this moment and we are happy about that. I think the players have performed very well but I don`t think we played better, for example, against Aston Villa than in the three previous games. We have played in the same high level the past three games before Aston Villa in my opinion but the difference is the win. Of course this makes a big difference in the analysis of the game but at Derby we played really very well with ten players, against Barnsley the same, against Millwall the same and then at Villa Park.'
As for City more specifically, they come into the game with three straight wins having only lost twice so far this campaign so he's expecting a tough match.
'Now we come back to our home this weekend and look forward to playing in front of our fans. We need them, they are very important to us and are a big, big part of the team. We need to feel their presence once again on Saturday.'
In a follow up interview, he went on to say.
'When you are in a competition like this, the balance is important. To drive the team to a good way in the bad moments because all the teams in the season will have a bad period. With some teams in the bad period, there will be panic so they will be more down, some teams will control the emotions and believe in themselves and continue on the way. I believe we are doing exactly this and we are in a better position in this moment. We are not completely happy in this moment, of course, but we are in a good way to achieve a good position.'
Adding that the fans would certainly play their part.
'We like to play in front of our fans, we enjoy a lot to play at Hillsborough with a lot of people around our team. The support has been very good and I appreciate it and say thank you to our fans. We are in a better position, we are playing better, we are winning points and I believe the support will be massive on Saturday. It`s really a game where we will need that. We play against a team that is in a good position, they have seven more points than us and they have so far lost just one away game.'
To end he explained.
'We have analysed the team, it will be a tough game and we need the support of our fans. We have had a good two weeks in training and we have recovered most of the players. Training has been with very high intensity and we have good expectations about Saturday. We will have big respect for Bristol City, but after this we must play our football and we can achieve a good afternoon on Saturday.'
