Pollitt Linked With Owls

Wigan Athletic stopper Mike Pollitt has been linked with a summer move to Hillsborough accoring to reports in the media at the weekend.

The 34-year-old has failed to break in to the Latics' first team this season - making just three appearances between the sticks for Paul Jewell's men as he sits behind Chris Kirkland and John Filan in the pecking order.

And Owls boss Brian Laws is said to be keen on bringing the former Rotherham United and Darlington man on a permanent basis next season to replace Mark Crossley in the number one jersey.

Wednesday were without a first-choice stopper at the club after releasing David Lucas in the summer - with Brad Jones coming in on loan from Middlesbrough and Chris Adamson as back-up, while Laws acted swiftly to secure the services of Crossley until the end of the season.

But it now looks as though the Owls gaffer will be looking towards Pollitt as the new Wednesday number one next term - with Crossley likely to return to Fulham or turn elsewhere for regular first-team football.

Pollitt has just completed a four-match loan spell with Burnley and has also gone out on loan to Ipswich Town earlier in the season. He's made just 20 league starts for the Latics since making his £200,000 move to the JJB from Rotherham in the summer of 2005.
