'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Watson Keeps His Options Open

Wednesday new-boy Steve Watson has revealed he's keeping his options open with regards to his future - and is looking forward to playing for the Owls for the next three months.

The former Newcastle and Everton defender made the move to Hillsborough last week until the end of the season - and impressed as the Owls held Burnley to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor on Saturday.

And Watson revealed that he just wants to enjoy the next three months in the blue and white of Wednesday - after being frozen out at the Hawthorns under new Baggies boss Tony Mowbray.

He told the Sheffield Star: 'I'm not really looking beyond the loan period at the moment. I feel I've got to leave my options open.

'I just want to enjoy the next three months and take it from there. I've been playing Reserve team football for probably the last six weeks; this was my first real competitive game in that time.'

Owls boss Brian Laws was quick to heap praise on Watson following the clash with the Clarets - and could well be set to make the move a permanent one in the summer following the Owls defensive frailties this season.

But the defender is fully focussed on the task in hand for the coming months - to stop the rot and get the Owls back on a similar run which saw them on the edge of the play-off spots.

He added: 'I saw them beat us comprehensively. After a bad run, confidence has gone down a bit, but you can see the ability's there. Let's hope that this is the footing for another good run. I've got three months to try and get the team as high up the table as I can.'
