The Next Bougherra?

Wednesday are set to field an Algerian defender in today's friendly with Huddersfield - no, not Madjid Bougherra, but SC Bastia player Samir Beloufa.

The Owls have had problems at the back with Bougherra leaving for Charlton, and injuries to Richard Wood, Graham Coughlan and John Hills have led to Steve Watson coming to the club on loan until the end of the season.

And Laws will be hoping he can impress in his outing and do enough to earn a full contract with the club to bolster his defensive options.

Beloufa, as with Bougherra, is an Algerian defender who is plying his trade in the second tier of the French League, with SC Bastia.

The 27-year-old played was on AC Milan's books during the 1997-98 campaign in Serie A and also played for Monza in Italy, as well as Mouscron and Germinal Beerschot in Belgium.

The Owls defence will be further boosted with the return of Peter Gilbert, who will also feature for the reserve team after returning from the club from his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers.
