Owls 'No' To Former Milan Man

Wednesday have dropped their interest in former AC Milan defender Samir Beloufa after the Algerian defender featured in the reserve clash with Huddersfield yesterday.

Owls boss Brian Laws ran the rule over Beloufa as Wednesday ran out 3-1 winners - thanks to a David Graham hat-trick - but revealed he was not the type of defender he was looking to bolster the frail Wednesday defence.

Laws told the Sheffield Star: 'Samir has a decent predigree; he's played for AC Milan, and for various clubs in Europe; he was recommended to us, and this game was a good opportunity for us to have a look at him.

'While he's a good footballer, he's on the small side for a centre half and not the kind of defender that we are looking for. There was no harm in having a look at him in a game.'

Beloufa, a former team-mate of former Owl Madjid Bougherra in the Algerian national side, had played with AC Milan and Monza in the Italian leagues and has most recently been playing for Bastia in the French second division.
