Reactions - Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday (30/1/18)

Following yesterday's clash between Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Middlesbrough hosted Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside Stadium for a 7.45pm kick off on Tuesday January 30, with both sides playing out a scoreless draw on the day.

Whilst the hosts clearly had the better of the game in terms of their domination of the match a resolute Wednesday performance at the back saw them to a point to keep new head coach Jos Luhukay's record as two cup wins and three Championship draws since he came to the club.

Teams:

Middlesbrough:

Randolph, Shotton, Ayala, Gibson, Friend, Howson (Clayton 79), Leadbitter, Downing, Traore, Assombalonga (Braithwaite 79), Bamford (Gestede 78).

Substitutes:

Konstantopoulos, Fletcher, Fry, Christie.

Sheff Wed:

Wildsmith, Ferrao Venancio, Pudil, Thorniley, Palmer, Butterfield (Boyd 66), Reach, Pelupessy, Fox, Wallace (Nielsen 90+1), Lucas Joao (Nuhiu 73).

Substitutes:

Hunt, Jones, Rhodes, Dawson.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee James Linington blew the final whistle, Middlesbrough head coach Tony Pulis explained.

'We created enough opportunities and enough chances to win the game. I thought at times we played some good football even when we were chasing the game. The club has invested a lot of money in the front line and we need them to come to the party. Everybody has got to understand that if you don't score goals, whether they're created for you or whether they can create their own opportunities, our aspirations are not going to be what we want them to be.'

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Jos Luhukay in his comparative interview explained.

'After 90 minutes we must say it was a difficult game for us. In the second half, Middlesbrough were stronger than us. We lost the ball too fast and we had to do more defending. In our situation, we are always happy when we can play away and take one point. In the first half what I saw was very good, but in the second half we were losing the ball too fast.'
