Macca's Contract: YOU Decide

We ask Vital Sheffield Wednesday users whether Owls boss Brian Laws should offer in-form striker Steve Maclean a new contract at the club, with his current deal ending in the summer.

The former Rangers man has been in hot form of late, netting eight goals for the club so far this season, and was promised to sit down for contract talks by boss Brian Laws in January.

But as yet there's no news over a new deal for the Scot - with fans fearing the worst after rumours of a bust-up between Macca and Laws after the striker was dropped for the match with Preston - a rumour denied by the Owls boss.

Maclean told the SWFC matchday programme: 'There's been no contact from the club as yet but I'm really keen to stay. I just need to wait and see what happens between now and the end of the season. At the moment, I'm fully focussed on my football and hopefully my game will do the talking for me.

'I'm just so happy to be playing again and scoring goals. When you're on the sidelines for a long period of time, it does teach you to appreciate things more. I'm delighted to be back and hopefully I can keep performing, keep scoring goals and keep my place in the team.

'Every time I've played in a decent run of games I've scored goals. There's a lot more to my game these days than just putting the ball in the back of the net but like any striker, I'm happiest when I'm scoring goals. Taking the penalties helps, of course, and I have a good record from the spot'

There's a danger Wednesday could lose the services of Maclean should a deal not be tied up in the coming weeks - so we want to know whether you think the hitman should be offered a new deal now, or whether Brian Laws should let him leave the club.
