Owls Extend Weaver Deal

Goalkeeper Nicky Weaver has had his loan spell with the club extended for a further month to provide cover for David Lucas, who is currently recovering from a knee injury.

The Manchester City stopper was initially brought in until the start of December to cover for Lucas, but the Wednesday number one has been out longer than expected.

The extension will keep the 26-year-old at Hillsborough until January 30th, with Lucas expecting to be fully recovered by then. The deal includes a 24-hour recall clause should City require Weaver's services.

The Sheffield lad has made 12 appearances for the club during a difficult period, but has helped them recover to chalk up two victories in the last week.

He will not be available for the FA Cup tie against Charlton Athletic this weekend as Manchester City want to keep him available should he be required over the pennines. Lucas is expected to take his place for the game, although he may have to rely on an outfield player to take the goal-kicks such are his knee problems.
