Cocko Gunning For Return

Wednesday defender Graham Coughlan has revealed he's desperate to get back to first team action with the Owls after overcoming a mouth fracture, and is more than ready this weekend.

The Owls' defensive frailties have been exposed in the last few months, and injuries to Richard Wood, John Hills and Peter Gilbert have made further cause for concern in the back line.

But Owls boss Brian Laws could well be boosted with the return of the former Plymouth man to add some much needed steel to the defence - and Coughlan is raring to go.

'The manager has spoken about leadership and the need for clean sheets. I would consider myself as being able to help. I'm ready, willing and able, if the manager decides to go down that route.' he told the Sheffield Star.

The Irishman has been forced to sit out on the sidelines after getting his place back in the team following the departure of Madjid Bougherra to Charlton. He was forced off in the 4-2 defeat to Sunderland after suffering a mouth fracture and losing two teeth.

But he continued: 'The gumshield should protect me. I want to play. I want to get back in the game.'

Wednesday could well have some new players to bolster their squad for the visit of Steve Tilson's Southend side at the weekend with Brian Laws revealing he could be set to welcome two players to the club on loan to plug the defensive frailties.
