Laws' Musings: Pre-Southend

Wednesday boss Brian Laws insists his side need to end their winless run sooner rather than later - with his sights firly set on three points against Steve Tilson's Shrimpers tomorrow.

The Owls are without a win in 2007 - and the under-fire Owls gaffer is concerned that the longer the winless run goes on, the more difficult it will be to pick up three points.

The longer a bad run goes on, the more pressure heaps on players' shoulders,' he told the Sheffield Star.

Players get paid well enough; they take all the plaudits when they are playing well. Sometimes, when you're not playing well, you have to take the negative part of the game. Some cope really well with it, some don't.'

And Laws is all too aware that the Owls problems lie defensively - but is confident he has enough quality at the back to turn things around in the coming weeks.

'We've scored more goals than Derby, the leaders. The difference is that Derby keep it tight at the back,' he said.

'The basis of any good side is a solid defence. I know we have had a lot of problems since the turn of the year with suspensions and injuries, but we have enough in there to do well. We need to be strong. We are a good side. I'll give support, 100 per cent, but if things aren't quite right I have to change it.'

Laws will be facing his toughest game since joining the Owls back in November as the Shrimpers travel up to Hillsborough desperate for three points to avoid a swift return to League One football.
