Wood Steps Up Return

Wednesday defender Richard Wood stepped up his return to full fitness by featuring for the Owls reserve side in their 2-1 victory over Port Vale last night.

The Ossett-born defender was all set to return to action in January after returning from an 11-month lay-off after picking up an injury in the Owls clash with Crystal Palace back in February 2006.

He made a substitute appearance at the City of Manchester stadium against Man City as the Owls crashed out of the FA Cup - but suffered a further set-back with a separate injury.

But the youngster came through the match unscathed - and could be set to give Brian Laws an extra option in defence in the coming weeks.

Wednesday ran out 2-1 winners at Vale Park as goals from Sean McAllister and Steve Maclean ensured the comeback was complete after Wednesday fell behind to an early Vale goal.

Leon Clarke, Kenny Lunt, Steve Adams, David Graham and Barry Corr also featured in the victory.
