Wednesday boss Brian Laws heaped praise on his side as they made amends for their 4-0 hammering at Layer Road earlier in the season with a comfortable victory at Hillsborough last night.
The defeat in the reverse fixture against Geraint Williams' men was the lowest point of the Owls season, ultimately resulting in Paul Sturrock losing his job the following day.
But Laws was impressed at the way his men went about 'proving a point' to the U's.
'I thought it was a good performance today. Last time they played Colchester they got a good hiding and it stuck in their throats so they wanted to prove a point,' Laws told the official SWFC site.
'There was some good football from us tonight, we got an early goal and the players seemed to take a lot on board of what we have been asking of them. It was a nice performance to take us into the top half and it keeps our run going.
'They were all on the front foot and it was a comfortable win in the end. We should have scored more goals but sometimes you get a fortunate second goal and we deserved the result overall.'
And following the debut given to young winger Rocky Lekej for the final five minutes, the Owls gaffer insisted he will be keen to get the 'future of the club' on the pitch to gain vital experience.
He added: 'If I can get players like Rocky involved it is important for his development to get first team football. We have had Mark Beevers come in and do exceptionally well too, they are both 17-year-olds and they are the future of this football club.
'It was good that Rocky could do it in front of a home crowd who got on the edge of their seat when he was on the ball to encourage him which is great for him.'
