Brunt's City Move Resurfaces

Brunt's City Move Resurfaces

Rumours of a summer swoop for Owls winger Chris Brunt by Premiership side Manchester City have resurfaced this week in light of the Ulsterman's sparkling performances.

Stuart Pearce's men have been linked with a move for the highly-rated Northern Irish international for a number of months with the Belfast Telegraph reporting today that City lead the chase ahead of Charlton Athletic and West Ham.

But with both London clubs looking relegation in the face this season, the City of Manchester Stadium club are said to be the front runners for his services - with a price tag believed to be around the £2m mark.

A source said to be close to the club told the Telegraph: 'There is a lot of speculation about Brunty going here, there and everywhere but Manchester City are the strong favourites to sign him in the summer.'

'The talk around the club at the minute is that he will move on and it will be a Premiership club. With Charlton and West Ham looking doomed, Manchester City would seem the best move for his career.'

The former Middlesbrough youth product has had his best season in a blue and white shirt this term and currently leads the Owls goalscoring charts despite playing on the left wing, and Owls boss Brian Laws will be keen to hold on to his star man.

But as with Madjid Bougherra's sale to Charlton Athletic, an offer of around £2m could prove too high for the club - who remain in financial difficulties - to turn down for a player they received for free.
