Deadline Day Dealings

There seem to be so many 'deadline days' with the daft new transfer system - but yet again we have another, and Vital Sheffield Wednesday looks over the Owls' dealings.

With little to play for before the end of the season, it's little surprise to most Wednesday fans that there has been little activity involving Brian Laws and his cheque book in the last week.

Just one player has agreed a deal with the club on deadline day, with Iain Turner agreeing to stay at the club another month on loan from Everton, after his initial deal expired this week.

Turner has been one of Laws' more inspirational signings since arriving at S6 - and has put in a number of man-of-the-match performances which have earned him a call-up to the Scotland squad for their up-coming Euro 2008 qualifiers.

There have been two players on their way out of S6 in the last few days with David Graham going on loan to League Two strugglers Torquay United and defender Graham Coughlan agreeing to a loan deal at Championship rivals Burnley.

Many fans expected David Graham to be given a chance in the blue and white shirt before the end of the season after arriving back from his rather unsuccessful loan stint at Bradford for the first half of the season.

But following the former Wigan man's departure, Owls boss Laws has come out to the media and said that Graham has been punished for a 'serious breach of club rules', has been fined two weeks wages, and also placed on the transfer list.

So it looks as though it's bye bye to the Scottish strikers hopes of a chance in the Owls first team, and the likelihood is he will be on his way out at the end of the season.

Coughlan on the other hand, requested a move to play first team football after sliding down the pecking order at S6 following the successful comeback of youngster Richard Wood and the continued praise for Lee Bullen and Tommy Spurr from the Owls gaffer.

The Irishman has had an extremely tough few weeks after given compassionate leave following the death of his younger brother in Dublin a number of weeks ago. Cocko needs to be playing regular first team football and I'm sure he'll do a fine job in helping the Clarets maintain their Championship status.

Sad to see Coughlan go, but there is no room for sentiment, if we get good players in the summer, then it was right move
