Laws: One Eye On Next Term

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed that he's had one eye firmly on next season from the minute he stepped through the Hillsborough door.

The Owls have accepted a mid-table finish is on the cards for the current season, and with Laws set to ring the changes in the pre-season, many Owls players are still playing for their places - and their contracts.

Steve Maclean's future at the club has been hotly debated over the last few weeks, but Laws has admitted that he is still yet to make final decisions on whether some players will still be plying their trade in S6 next season.

'To be honest I've had half an eye on next season since the day I came to the football club,' Laws told the official SWFC site.

'This is the time of year managers collate their thoughts on what they want for next year and players will be very focussed too? trying to get a place for next season.

'It is like a horse race in that there is always a late runner, there are one or two that when I came here I may not have taken for next season but have made a really strong run late on.'

A number of players including Maclean, Deon Burton and captain Lee Bullen are all out of contract in the summer, and the next few matches could well decide their fate.

Laws added: 'It's late in the season and it's the time when we make decisions on keeping people on or bringing in reinforcements. We want to bring in some good quality players that can take us to the next level.'
