Simek Makes USA Debut

Wednesday right-back Frank Simek made his debut for the USA national side last night and helped keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Guatemala in Texas.

The highly-rated Owls player was called up to the squad for the first time last week after impressing throughout the campaign and finally got his chance to impress after missing out in the weekend win over Ecuador.

And although Simek revealed he had to adjust to the slower pace of the match, he was honoured to finally pull on the USA colours.

'It was pretty cool,' Simek told the US Soccer Federation's website about his first-ever cap.

'It was something I've wanted to do for awhile now and it was a great honour to get my first cap. The result could have gone better for us I thought, but they sat in and frustrated us. All in all, it was a decent performance, but we should have ended up better.'

'The pace of this game is a lot slower. Obviously, when you're playing a team like Guatemala they are going to make it difficult for you as well. It was night and day, that's for sure.'

And the 22-year-old will be hoping his performance cements a place in the squad for future matches.
