Brunt Helps Norn Iron Go Top

Wednesday winger Chris Brunt continued his superb form last night by playing 90 minutes to help Northern Ireland to top spot in their group with a 2-1 win over Sweden.

A brace from Leeds United hitman David Healy put Lawrie Sanchez's men top of Group F with victory over the Swedes on an electric night in front of 14,500 fans at Windsor Park.

The Owls wingman impressed boss Sanchez when he featured for the full 90 minutes in the friendly clash with Wales recently and now seems to have established himself in the first team.

The youngster played well throughout and almost got an assist when his dangerous cross gave Michael Duff the chance to break the deadlock 25 minutes in but the Burnley defender blazed his header over the bar.

And the 22-year-old, who has attracted the interest of numerous Premiership clubs including West Ham and Manchester City, managed the full 90 minutes before being replaced in stoppage time by Ivan Sproule.

Brunt will be hoping he has done enough to keep his place for Northern Ireland's next two Euro 2008 qualifying matches at home to Liechtenstein in August and away to Latvia in September.

Keep it going Brunty, you make sure you get your price up, because we do not have the ambition to keep you, so you might as well earn us as much money as you can.
