Deon Going For A Burton

Wednesday striker Deon Burton is hoping to earn himself a new deal before the end of the season with his current contract set to expire in the summer.

The former Derby and Portsmouth frontman is one of a number of out contract at Hillsborough this season and many fans think he will be battling it out with fellow striker Steve Maclean for a new deal come the end of the campaign.

And Burton is confident that he will earn a new deal at S6 if he carries on playing how he has been in recent weeks.

'Nothing has been sorted yet, all we can do is to keep training hard and playing hard, and something will happen,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'I want to stay. Hopefully, it I carry on what I'm doing, then everything will get sorted. Everyone will have their own incentives; everyone will have their own individual battles.

'We have to try to get as many points as we can. I don't set myself targets but I want to score as many goals as I can.'

The 30-year-old has been a key figure for Brian Laws' men this season netting nine goals thus far and is seen as one of the first names down on the team sheet since the turn of the year.

I'd give Deon a new contract but not at the expense of Macca
