Laws Eyes Play-Offs

Wednesday may still be sitting ten points behind a play-off spot following their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace - but boss Brian Laws is still looking towards a top six finish.

Goals from Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay gave Wednesday all three points at Selhurst Park on Saturday to see the Owls leapfrog Palace - who were also chasing a play-off spot prior to the clash.

And boss Peter Taylor's optimism surrounding a top-six finish has spurred Laws on to believe a play-off place is still within the reach of his men, albeit a very long shot with just six games of the season remaining.

'I read somewhere that Palace manager Peter Taylor said that if they tried to win every game they could still make it to the play-offs,' said Laws.

'And to be honest I said to myself, if he's thinking that, then why shouldn't we feel the same?

'If we can get 70 points then we might stand a chance - so lets have a go, even if it's only mathematically possible. This win shows that my players hadn't switched off and were thinking about their summer holidays.'

And Laws was thrilled with his sides performance as they grabbed their first win against Palace at Selhurst Park for the first time in 25 years.

He added: 'It was a great win for us today. Conditions in the first half were very difficult, with a lot of swirling wind, which wasn't helping anybody. I said at half time that we have to make our passing shorter to combat those problems and we certainly kept the ball a lot better in the second half.'

Yep, there was a lot of swirling wind around on Saturday, some of it at the press conference :) Still, no harm in being positive, eh?
