Laws Praises Owls Hitman

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was full of praise for striker Leon Clarke after the former Wolves man celebrated his first start for the club with his first goal in the win at Cardiff.

The youngster netted from close range to open the scoring at Ninian Park on Saturday afternoon as Wednesday took their unbeaten run to eight matches with an impressive victory.

And Laws revealed he was pleased to see the January signing mark his first start with a goal.

'We brought Leon in from Wolves and sent him out on loan just to get some fitness and it has certainly shown today that has been a real plus for him. He worked his socks off out there and he is a very powerful young man and I was pleased for him to get the goal.' Laws told the official SWFC website.

It was clear to see Clarke's delight at his first goal in the famous blue and white stripes as he celebrated in front of the impressive Owls support in Wales yesterday afternoon.

The 22-year-old was sent out to Oldham Athletic to get some match fitness after making the switch to Hillsborough from Molineux - and he netted three goals in five appearances for the League One club.

And Clarke will be hoping to continue his fine form when the Owls welcome Ipswich Town to Hillsborough on Monday.

All he can do is keep sticking it in. Healthy competition is what we need

Indeed, I hope he proves all his doubters wrong and he gets a goal in front of his home fans tomorrow.
