Laws Targets Maclean Deal

Steve Maclean's future at the club has been highlighted as a priority by Owls boss Brian Laws - revealing he is set to sit down and discuss a new offer with the Scotsman.

Many fans felt the silence surrounding Maclean's future at Hillsborough meant the former Rangers and Scunthorpe man was set for the exit door in the summer.

But the Wednesday gaffer has revealed he will prioritise sitting down with the striker and discussing a new deal as the campaign draws to a close.

Laws told Sky Sports: 'We are in negotiations now with the players who are out of contract. We have started negotiations [with] Lee Bullen in particular and Steven MacLean.'

The news follows hot on the heels of Laws revealing he has offered Owls captain Lee Bullen a one-year extension to his current deal at the club which will see him remain at S6 until the end of the 2007/08 campaign.

The Edinburgh born hitman has been in fine form for the club this season having netted an impressive 12 goals this term after recovering from a long-term injury last season.

And his overall goalscoring record shows that Laws could well be making the right decision in keeping him at the club, with Macca netting 54 goals in 96 league starts during his spells at Scunthorpe and Wednesday.
