We Can Trust Brian!

We Can Trust Brian!

Vital Sheffield Wednesday member hellboy0628 tells us how we can rely on Brian Laws to bring in some 'rough diamonds' during the summer - and hang on to our assets...

-------------------------------------------

With news reports stating that Brunt and Simek are now going to be targeted by Premiership teams and now a price tag has been put Simek's head, this all smacks of the Bougherra scenario again.

Don't forget the club turned down initial offers for the services of Bougherra with the Algerian being a key figure in our team at the time.

I put the reason down to Madjid leaving purely because he was desperate to play Premiership football and to play it as soon as possible despite anything that was going for us as a club at the time.

His reported unprofessional behaviour and threatening never to play for the club again didn't help matters, and from then on there was only one way he was going, and that was out of the club.

I would think it would be the same situation with Simek and Brunt that Brian Laws will do all in his powers to keep hold of two very influential players.

I also think they have too much professionalism and respect for the club and fans to make such threats as Madjid did, and when they have been questioned on the prospect of leaving Hillsborough for the Premiership both players have said how they are enjoying life here and that they would prefer to play Premiership football in Sheffield - obviously a sign of respect and loyalty towards the club.

A simple way to view the situation is that both players are young, playing every week and are involved in their respective international teams. They have potential to play in the Premiership eventually but I don`t think they would walk into a Premiership starting 11 week in, week out because they are untested at that level and still have some development before being good enough.

I hope they realise that Wednesday are on the verge of a rebirth and bigger things to come and that as individuals they still have time on their hands to play in England's biggest scale, they're settled in Sheffield and all recognise that they have failed at 'bigger' teams in the Premiership and that they have had their big chance given to them by Sheffield Wednesday.

It's not nice to have all our better players linked with moves away from Hillsborough but in fact it's the only time I can remember that we've had a list of players that are good enough to warrant interest other teams in higher places.

It also proves that we are turning things back to the way they should be and if players leave that we`d rather keep it's likely we'll have sold them for more than they cost.

Brian Laws is making a reputation for finding diamonds in the rough - look at the ones hes found for us in Jermaine Johnson and Iain Turner, (and Billy Sharp et al for Scunthorpe). As long as he can continue to find players of that calibre we shouldn't worry too much if we lose the Brunts, Whelans and Simeks of this world.

We're in good hands and moving in the right direction.

Good read there mate. I'm with you on Brunt and Simek being more loyal to the club and they always come across well in their interviews. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of the Bougherra transfer

Excellent read. I agree with you also and I cannot see anyone leaving just yet. January 2008 will be a different scenario should we find ourselves well off the pace. Lets hope we can strengthen, progress and keep our rising stars.
