Baggies Recall Watson

On-loan Wednesday player Steve Watson has been recalled to parent club West Brom by boss Tony Mowbrey in light of a number of injuries and suspensions to the Baggies squad.

The former Newcastle and Everton utility man has been a key figure in the Owls' campaign since his arrival at S6 back in February and has featured in the turnaround which has brought the Owls to within two points of the play-off spots.

The news follows Iain Turner being recalled to Everton at the weekend and is a big blow to Owls boss Brian Laws.

'We are obviously very disappointed that they have pulled him back to just go back into the squad and not into their team but I think they see us as a rival for a play-off spot now,' Laws told the official SWFC site.

'It doesn't look good on our promotion drive but we can't expect any help from anybody, no-one is going to do us any favours and if we are going to get into the play-offs we are going to have to do it the hard way. But hopefully that will cement us and make us stronger as a team.

'Tony Mowbray rang us late in the week and that hasn't helped in preparing for Saturday's game but we have still got options. The fact that we beat West Brom without Steve Watson shows that we are not going to be distracted, no matter what.'

The Baggies are without Curtis Davies, Neil Clement and Darren Carter for their last two games of the campaign and have turned to Watson as cover to cement their spotin the top-six.
