Burton Hopes To Stay An Owl

In-form Wednesday striker Deon Burton has revealed he hopes to stay at Hillsborough and pen a new deal with the club in the coming weeks.

The former Derby and Portsmouth hitman hit his 13th goal of a superb campaign in the Owls' 3-2 season finale victory over Norwich City at the weekend.

And he's been rewarded with a new deal by Wednesday boss Brian Laws which the former Jamaican international has revealed he's close to finalising.

'I hope to stay,' Burton told the Sheffield Star.

'My agent is talking to the club; everything seems very positive. I just want to finalise things. I'm very positive that something will be thrashed out and that, fingers, crossed, I'll be here next season.'

The striker has been one of the players of the season for the Owls, picking up the 'forward of the year' honour at the club's recent end of season awards presentation at Hillsborough.

And Burton was pleased with his form in the blue and white of the Owls this season.

He added: 'It's been a good season for me. I'm happy with the contribution that I've made.

'Even when I wasn't scoring, in the middle of the season, I thought I wasn't playing too badly. Overall, the team have done very well.'
