Keeper Race Hots Up

Wednesday are among a host of clubs interested in the services of Hartlepool United's highly-rated Greek goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos this summer.

Owls boss Brian Laws has made the signing of a goalkeeper his number one priority in the summer after he revealed a potential deal for Everton stopper Iain Turner was 'dead in the water' at the weekend.

And the Hartlepool stopper, who featured in the play-off defeat against Wednesday back in 2005 for Danny Wilson's men, is high on Laws' list as he looks set to approach the Victoria Park club sooner rather than later.

But there is also interest for the stopper from Watford and fellow Championship club Cardiff City, who have both had scouts watching the Greek goalkeeper in recent months.

And Hartlepool boss Wilson admits he has a tough job on his hands to keep hold of the stopper in the summer, despite United's promotion to League One.

'I'm sure other parties will be interested in him because he is a very good goalkeeper, but I don't know who they are,' said Wilson.

'It's understandable if teams are interested in him, now we have to compete with them to try and keep him. The decision comes down to Dimi, that's for sure. If we lose him we will be disappointed.'

Scunthorpe's Joe Murphy and Wigan's experienced stopper Mike Pollitt are both thought to be on Brian Laws' shopping list as he looks to bring in two goalkeepers in the close season.

Nice one. No problems with that if it happens.

Plus from the photo Dimitrios looks like he's missing the ends of his fingers, which must be a terrible handicap ;)

Yeah, because if he's been playing for Hartlepool for the past 5 years or whatever - he must be quality! Reminds me of the Pavel Srnicek debacle.

We should sign Ben Foster. I know for a fact that Man Utd will release him on a free half way through next season, because it happened in FM 2007 and that game is balls-on accurate. I need a life!
