'If It's Football, It's Vital'

This Just In..

Lee Bullen and Deon Burton have agreed new deals with Sheffield Wednesday, according to reports from BBC Radio Sheffield.

Captain courageous Bullen has agreed a one-year contract and Jamaican international striker Burton has signed up for a new two-year contract.

'Lee has had an exceptional season and you want to keep players like him.' said Owls manager Brian Laws. 'It's also great news about Deon.'

Bearing in mind rumours about Billy Sharp, Laws stated: 'We're still in discussions with Steve MacLean'.

Reports earlier in the day quoted Laws on the subject of transfer funds: 'We have had meetings with the chairman and chief executive over the last few weeks and we have spoken about financial implications of where we have to go to achieve the one thing that everyone wants and that is to get to the Premiership. If we are going to do that we are going to need to bring in quality players and team strengthening will be a vital part of that. We will need money to spend and the chairman has given me some money to spend.'

Laws continued: 'There is a lot of work to be done, there are a lot of negotiations to be done and I would hope that come the start of pre-season most things will be in place. If the right player is out there, who we feel will bring the right ingredients to this football club, I think the chairman will back that. If I show the evidence that it would be a good move for us, then I think the chairman will go forward with it, but that is something you are going to have to wait to find out.'
