Scunthorpe have rejected the Owls' bid for 32-goal hotshot striker Billy Sharp.
Preston are the latest club to show an interest, with the possibility that David Nugent could move elsewhere.
The Owls have allegedly offered £1.5million for Scunthorpe's prize playing asset, thought to be £1.1million now, with a further £400k in add-ons.
Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins said: 'There has been an interest from Sheffield Wednesday and Preston. Sheffield Wednesday have made a bid and we have turned it down. There is going to be a lot of speculation throughout the whole summer about Billy Sharp because he is a hot property. He is our player and we want him to stay at our football club.
We have spoken to his agent and both he and Billy are well aware that we want him to stay. It is going to be a long summer, it is still early days, and the scenario is that this situation will run and run for the length of the summer. But Billy Sharp will not leave unless there is a move that is right for him and Scunthorpe United are reimbursed accordingly.'
Maybe that's the last time we'll run a Billy Sharp picture at the top of one of these articles? Who can tell?
