Sharp Chase Continues
Wednesday will have to slap an increased bid on the table of Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins if they are to land Billy Sharp this season.
The Owls have already had a £1.5m offer knocked back by the Iron after rumours linking boss Brian Laws with a move for his former main man emerged immediately following his arrival at the helm at S6.
And Scunthorpe gaffer Adkins has revealed that his former colleague will have to raise the stakes if he's to get his hands on the 32-goal marksman for a promotion push next season.
Nigel Adkins said: 'Brian Laws has now opened the door for other clubs because he`s actually put a bid on the table.
'He's opened the door for other clubs now to say 'well, that's started the bidding'. Billy is one of the hottest properties in football at the moment - and premium players cost premium prices.'
Media reports have stated that the recently crowned League One champions will want at least £2 million for their prized asset, a fee which could rule Wednesday out of the running after Laws revealed his priorities are to strengthen his squad elsewhere.
Preston and West Brom are also said to be linked with the former Sheffield United man's services with Sharp also currently considering a new deal offered to him by Scunthorpe.
