Simek In US Squad
Frank Simek has been rewarded for his fine form last season by receiving another call-up for for the US national side as they look to defend their Gold Cup this summer.
The right back has enjoyed a superb season in the blue and white of Wednesday and broke in to Bob Bradley's US squad for the first time this season, and is now looking to make himself a permanent fixture in the squad starting with the CONCACAF tournament which kicks-off on June 6 against Guatemala.
And Bradley insists the 23-man squad will be playing for their places in the 2008 World Cup qualifying matches.
'As I have said, winning the Gold Cup is our most important priority this year, and I believe we have assembled a team capable of doing that,' he said.
'We have a very good blend of talent, youth and experience. This is a great opportunity to continue to secure our place as one of the top teams in the region, as well as obtain valuable experience as we progress towards World Cup qualifying in 2008.'
The US will warm up for the competition with a friendly clash against China on June 2 before playing their Group B matches against Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador and hopefully progressing.
And the news will mean that former Arsenal trainee Simek will be returning to pre-season training later than most for the Owls this summer.
