Owls Rumours Continue

Yes, yes, we know you're fed up of rumours and it's not even June! But the Owls have been linked with yet another midfielder this week, in Oldham Athletic's Ritchie Wellens.

We wanted to keep you in touch with all the news, if you somehow missed the latest link with the former Blackpool playmaker, who has rejected a new deal at Boundary Park following the Latics' failure to gain promotion from League Two.

The report comes from the most reliable source you could think of, the Daily Star on Sunday, and implies that Owls' boss Brian Laws is looking towards Wellens as a replacement for Kenny Lunt, who has been linked with a move away from S6 to Huddersfield Town.

The ex-Manchester United trainee has impressed during his stints in League One with John Sheridan's men and also at Blackpool previously, but has yet to make the step up to Championship level.

The 27-year-old wouldn't command a transfer fee for the Owls and could well be an option for the Owls should Laws fail to agree terms with Tommy Miller - a man who the Owls boss has already admitted he's talked to about a move from Sunderland.

Wellens failed to make an appearance at Old Trafford but was a star performer in the lower leagues as he chalked up 173 league starts for Blackpool before making the switch to Oldham in the summer of 2005, where he's gone on to make 87 league starts.

The only problems Wellens seems to have had have been with himself so maybe Laws is the man to put him on the right track?

Sorry. Ritchie Who?

With every new rumour about lower division crap coming to Wednesday, so lessens my confidence that we will finish any higher than mid-table, in light of the kind of players that are already signing for our divisional rivals.

bloody hell, come on surely we can do better than this, Laws says we need quality and the right calibre of player to move forward, signing lower league players is a recipe for disaster, there are few quality midfielders down there I personally would have gone for Kris Commons but it looks like he's wolves bound

Rumours rumours rumours.... Tell ya what I've had enough of bloody rumours... We need quality players to improve the squad, this may come from the lower leagues in the shape of young undiscovered talent but I'm not overly hopeful.
