Wigan Linked With Brunt

Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings is preparing a £2m raid for highly-rated Wednesday winger Chris Brunt according to reports today.

The Sunday People have today reported that Brunt is top of Hutchings shopping list with the new Latics boss finding it difficult to attract 'top names' to the Lancashire club in preparation for the new season.

Lee McCulloch has long been linked with a move north of the border to Rangers, and a deal of £1.5m is expected to take the winger to Ibrox this summer - with Brunt penned in as his replacement.

But Owls boss Brian Laws is keen to hold on to his prized players as he looks to push for the play-offs in the Championship next season - with Brunt arguably the main man en-route to the Premiership.

And the Wednesday gaffer has already started talks over a new contract for the Northern Irish international, with Brunt's deal at S6 set to expire in the summer of 2008.

Speculation over Brunt's Hillsborough future is set to be brought under the spotlight this summer with a number of clubs previously showing interest in the January transfer window - but Owls fans will be hoping the former Middlesbrough man commits his future to the Owls in the coming weeks.

What will £2 million buy as a replacement? Wigan are blatantly going down next season anyway, Brunt might as well bide his time and learn from Bougherra's mistake.
