Brunt Rumours Resurface

Wednesday winger Chris Brunt has been linked with moves to Wigan Athletic and Fulham this week - but the Owls have played down talk of a move away from the club for the youngster.

As reported on Vital Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, the former Middlesbrough man was rumoured to be the subject of a £2 million bid from Wigan, and rumours today have linked the winger with a move to Fulham.

A potential move to Craven Cottage would see Brunty link up with former Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez - probably the reason why the rumour surfaced in the first place.

But Owls boss Brian Laws has started negotiations over a new contract with Brunt, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

A club spokesman told BBC Sport: 'We've seen reports of clubs interested but have yet to receive any bids. Our manager Brian Laws is set to offer Chris a new contract.

'Chris would like to move to the Premiership but also stated his desire to lead Wednesday into the top flight. He has a year left on his current deal and we are aiming to keep him here for longer which is our aim with all our best players.'

The winger has been a big hit with Owls fans and has attracted the interest of a number of clubs after a superb 2006/07 campaign in the famous blue and white stripes - and Owls fans will be hoping to see him continue the form next season.
