'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wycombe Deny Coughlan Links

Wycombe Wanderers boss Paul Lambert has denied the League Two club have secured a deal for Owls centre-back Graham Coughlan, but has admitted they're looking for new defenders.

The Irish defender seems to have been surplus to requirements under boss Brian Laws after being sent out on loan to Burnley towards the end of last season.

And it's widely expected that the former Plymouth Argyle man will be on his way out of Hillsborough this season for pastures new, with former boss Paul Sturrock hotly tipped to re-unite with him at Swindon Town next term.

But the Adams Park club could also be in for his signature as they look to splash the cash to secure promotion this time around.

'It's that time of the year when speculation is rife and I don't know where this report came from, but it's not true,' former Celtic legend and Wanderers boss Lambert told the club's official website.

'Yes, it's true that we're looking at central defenders, but we haven't signed one yet, I can assure you.'

The Dublin-born defender has made 52 appearances for the club after being brought to Hillsborough by Paul Sturrock. He helped the club stay in the Championship at the first time of asking in he 2005/06 season but was limited to 20 appearances last season.

I wouldn't be surprised to him link up with Paul Sturrock at Swindon
