Frankie Helps US Progress

Wednesday defender Frank Simek was part of the USA side that progressed to the quarter final stages of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup with victory over Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

The Owls right-back has been a key figure in coach Bob Bradley's US set-up throughout the competition after impressing for the Owls in the 2007/08 campaign.

And Frankie could well be on his way to his first taste of cup success after the 2-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago secured their place in the quarter finals of the competition - with just a draw against El Salvador required on Tuesday night to finish top of Group B.

Simek has been a relative newcomer to the international stage in recent months but will be hoping his performances for the side to date will keep him at the forefront of coach Bradley's thoughts for future matches.

But the US coach was far from happy with his side's performance despite the relatively comfortable 2-0 victory.

Bradley said: 'I'm disappointed at the team. We had good chances, and I think we had opportunities to score two more goals. We have to make sure we do it right as we move to the quarterfinals. We have to get at least a point to get to the top of our group.'

Frankie will travel with the rest of the US squad to Boston on Tuesday to face their final group game, whereby anything other than defeat will see them finish top of their group and remain in Boston to play their quarter-final clash on Saturday.
